The Ugandan Independence Day which was organised by the Ugandan Community in Qatar (UGACOQ) was celebrated was celebrated with various cultural performances which included dances, drumming and stand-up comedies.
During the occasion, Ethiopian Airlines signed an MoU with UGACOQ where both parties will have mutual benefits. At the event also the Ugandans talked of how if there of a Ugandan embassy in Qatar things would be better for then.
In addition, Qatari Khalid al Jaber who was the guest of honour urged the community to collect bottle caps for the tops are recycled to make prosthetic limbs. Speaking during the event UGACOQ Acting Chairperson Aliguma Saul Rayan said, “Since we don’t have an embassy here, I am calling all Ugandans to become ambassadors of Uganda.
Look for fellow Ugandans and bring them on board so that the helping of one another becomes easier for us. The Ugandan Community in Qatar, is preaches unity, togetherness, respect among us and therefore, I am calling us to come together,” he said.
Rayan said that in the Memorandum of Understanding Ethiopian Airlines will provide 15 percent online discounts on existing/applicable passenger fares from Qatar to Entebbe and two pieces of 23 kilogrammes each baggage allowance and 7 kilos carry on, and more attractive cargo rates to Entebbe through the community.
“I know the Ugandan Community will enjoy the services that Ethiopian Airlines has offered. We look forward to work hard in hard not only today but also for a long term,” he said.
Ethiopian Airlines Area Manager Tehetena Zelleke Asfaw, “It gives me a great pleasure to announce while celebrating the Independence Day that Ethiopian Airline is providing 15 percent discount to only UGACOQ members.
We are making giving a total allowance of 53 kilos,” she said. For his part, UGACOQ Assistant Chairperson Muganzi Aiden said that not having an embassy in Qatar is a big deal for the community.
If they need to attest their documents, they send them to Saudi Arabia which was an expensive affair. Ugandan Independence Day is marked on October 9.
